Going to divorce court can be stressful, and you want to make sure that you create a good first impression. Knowing what to wear to court could possibly mean the difference between winning or losing the case. You want the judge to listen to what you have to say instead of listening to his thoughts on why you dressed like a ruffian for a non-casual event.

Why Does Attire Matter in Divorce Court?

Many people believe that what they wear does not make a difference in a court session, although it makes a massive difference. The judge is doing what they do best, judging. They judge you on every aspect. Appearance will always get judged before you even open your mouth. First impressions will set the mood of the courtroom. Although the court is supposed to be a place of facts and unbiased decisions, not every judge is capable of being completely unbiased.

The Science

Research proves that humans make their first impression of others within 1/10th of a second. That first impression is made because of the individual's primal instinct. It is widely believed that people who present themselves positively will end up with better outcomes then those that do not.

Body Modifications

Many people in today's world have physically altered their appearance. Body modifications can be classified as unnatural hair colors, tattoos, and facial piercings. The courtroom is not a proper place to display these modifications. It is best that you take precautions to cover your tattoos, take out the piercings, and dye your hair color to something a little more natural and conservative.
